PL2200 + aspirin is a combination drug consisting of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) pre-associated with phosphatidylcholine (a type of lipid). This formulation is designed to reduce the gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity commonly associated with standard aspirin therapy while maintaining its antiplatelet and anti-inflammatory effects. The mechanism of action remains primarily through irreversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), leading to decreased thromboxane A2 production and reduced platelet aggregation. Preclinical and clinical studies suggest that PL2200 may offer similar or enhanced chemopreventive actions compared to regular low-dose aspirin, potentially making it more effective for cancer prevention and cardiovascular protection in at-risk populations. The addition of phosphatidylcholine aims to protect the GI mucosa by mitigating local injury caused by direct contact with aspirin[1][3][5].
