Drug intelligence / Profile preview
placebo + acetylsalicylic acid is a combination treatment regimen used as the control arm in a Phase III clinical trial (sponsored by Peking University Third Hospital) for the prevention of stroke and death in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA). This regimen consists of a placebo designed to mimic ticagrelor and active acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin). Acetylsalicylic acid is a well-established antiplatelet agent that functions by irreversibly acetylating the active site of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), thereby inhibiting the synthesis of thromboxane A2, a potent mediator of platelet aggregation. The placebo component is an inactive substance used to maintain the double-blind study design while comparing the efficacy of aspirin monotherapy against the combination of ticagrelor and aspirin.
