Overview

This is a combination of placebo and albiglutide. Albiglutide is a recombinant fusion protein and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, formerly marketed under the brand names Tanzeum (US) and Eperzan (Europe). It was used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Albiglutide acts by binding to the GLP-1 receptor, stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon secretion, and slowing gastric emptying. The drug was developed by GlaxoSmithKline but has been discontinued due to limited prescribing and declining sales. Placebo refers to an inert substance with no active pharmacological ingredient, used as a control in clinical trials[1][3][5][7].
