placebo + atorvastatin

This is a combination of a placebo and atorvastatin. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, angina, and the need for heart surgery. It works by competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. This leads to decreased hepatic cholesterol concentrations and upregulation of LDL receptors on hepatocytes, increasing clearance of LDL from the bloodstream. Atorvastatin also reduces VLDL-cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL-cholesterol[1][2][5]. Placebo is an inactive substance with no therapeutic effect that is often used as a control in clinical trials.
