Overview

This refers to the combination of a placebo (an inert substance with no active pharmacological effect) and bupropion, an atypical antidepressant. In clinical trials, "placebo + bupropion" typically designates a control or comparator arm where participants receive both a placebo (for another drug in the study) and active bupropion. Bupropion acts primarily as a norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) and nicotinic receptor antagonist. It is used for major depressive disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and smoking cessation[5]. The addition of placebo does not alter the pharmacological action but serves to maintain blinding in studies evaluating combinations or add-on therapies.
