Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of a placebo (an inert substance with no therapeutic effect) and losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). Losartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. By inhibiting this pathway, losartan relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of stroke in certain populations with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy, and helps protect kidney function in people with type 2 diabetes and hypertension. The inclusion of placebo indicates this combination is used for clinical trial or research purposes rather than as a marketed therapeutic product[1][2][3][7].
