Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of a placebo (an inert substance with no therapeutic effect) and methotrexate, an antimetabolite and immunosuppressant drug. Methotrexate inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, interfering with DNA synthesis, repair, and cellular replication. It is used to treat various cancers (such as leukemia, breast cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma), severe psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and other autoimmune or inflammatory conditions. The addition of placebo in clinical trials serves as a control to assess the efficacy and safety of methotrexate by comparison.
