Overview

This is a combination used in clinical trials where one group receives a placebo and the other receives micronized purified flavonoid fraction (MPFF). MPFF is a venoactive drug composed primarily of diosmin (90%) and additional flavonoids such as hesperidin, diosmetin, linarin, and isorhoifolin (10%). It is used to treat chronic venous disease (CVD), hemorrhoidal disease, and post-thrombotic syndrome. MPFF acts by reducing inflammation, improving venous tone through modulation of noradrenergic signaling and reduction of norepinephrine metabolism, increasing capillary resistance and integrity, decreasing endothelial activation and leukocyte adhesion, providing antioxidant effects by inhibiting free radical production in immune cells, normalizing prostaglandin E2 levels, reducing edema formation via anti-leakage effects on microvasculature. Placebo has no pharmacological activity but serves as a control in clinical studies[1][2][3][4][5].
