Overview
placebo + nicotine refers to a combination treatment arm used as a control in a Phase II clinical trial conducted by Evotec Neurosciences GmbH for smoking cessation in patients with tobacco use disorder. This intervention consisted of a 5 mg placebo tablet, designed to match the experimental MAO-B inhibitor EVT 302, administered once daily in conjunction with an open-label 21 mg nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) transdermal patch. The trial was designed to evaluate whether the addition of EVT 302 to standard NRT improved quit rates compared to NRT alone (represented by this placebo + nicotine arm). The study results showed that the combination of EVT 302 and NRT did not provide a statistically significant benefit over the placebo plus nicotine control.
