This is a combination of oglemilast and placebo, typically used as a control or comparator arm in clinical trials. Oglemilast is an oral small molecule drug that acts as a selective phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor. It was developed for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. PDE4 inhibitors work by reducing inflammation through inhibition of the PDE4 enzyme, which increases intracellular cyclic AMP levels and leads to anti-inflammatory effects in airway tissues. Oglemilast was developed by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and licensed to Forest Laboratories for further development. Clinical trials have evaluated its efficacy versus placebo in COPD and asthma; however, it failed to show significant benefit over placebo in phase 2 studies for COPD[6][8][10].
