This combination regimen involves the administration of an inactive placebo via a 15-minute intravenous infusion followed by Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). SBRT is a specialized form of external beam radiation therapy that delivers high-precision, high-dose radiation to a localized tumor area over a small number of fractions, primarily working by inducing lethal DNA damage in cancer cells. In the context of Galera's clinical development program, this arm serves as the standard-of-care comparator to evaluate the efficacy and safety of adding the investigational superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic GC4711 (rucosopasem manganese) to radiation therapy.
