Overview

This is a combination regimen consisting of placebo, tacrolimus, and mycophenolate mofetil. Tacrolimus is a macrolide immunosuppressant that acts as a calcineurin inhibitor, suppressing T-cell activation by inhibiting the phosphatase activity of calcineurin. Mycophenolate mofetil is an immunosuppressive agent that acts as a reversible inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), thereby inhibiting the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. This combination is widely used for maintenance immunosuppression in organ transplantation, particularly kidney and liver transplants, to prevent allograft rejection. The inclusion of placebo indicates this regimen may be used in clinical trial settings to compare against active or standard-of-care regimens[1][5][6][8].
