Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Placebo Gel (Topokine Therapeutics) is an inactive topical formulation developed for use as a comparator in clinical trials evaluating XAF5 Gel for the reduction of submental fat (double chin). The gel is designed to be physically indistinguishable from the active treatment in terms of appearance, consistency, and application method but lacks the active pharmaceutical ingredient. In Phase 2a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies conducted by Topokine Therapeutics, the placebo was applied once nightly to the submental area for six weeks. This allowed researchers to establish a baseline for safety and efficacy comparisons against XAF5, which is a small molecule intended to reduce cellular lipid content and adipocyte differentiation through a G protein-coupled cascade.
