Placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hPMSCs) are an investigational allogeneic cell therapy biologic consisting of mesenchymal stem cells isolated from human placental tissue. This therapy is being evaluated primarily for the treatment of moderate to severe knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Administered via intra-articular injection, these cells are thought to exert therapeutic effects through paracrine mechanisms that modulate the local joint environment, reducing inflammation and shifting the balance between cartilage anabolism and catabolism. The Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University has conducted Phase 2 clinical research to assess the safety and efficacy of these cells in promoting cartilage repair and improving clinical outcomes such as pain reduction and joint function.
