Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Cascade Autologous Platelet System is an FDA 510(k)-cleared medical device used to produce a Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) from a patient's own blood. This autologous biologic consists of a dense, cross-linked fibrin scaffold that traps platelets without the need for exogenous thrombin. Upon application, the PRFM provides a sustained release of endogenous growth factors, including Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-β), and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), over a period of 7 to 10 days. It is primarily used as an augmentation agent in orthopedic surgeries, such as arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and for the treatment of chronic wounds like diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers to promote tissue regeneration and healing.
