Overview

Platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) combined with peripheral blood mononuclear stem cells (PBMCs) is an autologous, cell-based regenerative therapy. PRFM is a second-generation platelet concentrate derived from the patient's own blood, processed to form a three-dimensional cross-linked fibrin scaffold that traps platelets and leukocytes. This matrix gradually releases growth factors and cytokines over time, supporting tissue regeneration and wound healing[1][4][5]. PBMCs are a heterogeneous population of immune and progenitor cells isolated from peripheral blood; they include lymphocytes (T-cells, B-cells), monocytes, and hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. When used together, PRFM provides a biocompatible scaffold rich in growth factors while PBMCs contribute additional regenerative potential through paracrine signaling and possible differentiation into target tissues. The combination aims to enhance tissue repair by synergistically promoting angiogenesis, modulating inflammation, stimulating resident stem cell activity, and accelerating healing processes in orthopedic injuries, chronic wounds, aesthetic procedures (such as skin rejuvenation or hair restoration), dental/maxillofacial surgery applications[1][2][3][7]. This therapy is typically autologous—prepared at point-of-care using the patient’s own blood—minimizing immunogenicity or risk of disease transmission.
