Overview

Platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) is an autologous biologic regenerative material used in dental surgery to treat chronic periodontitis and intraosseous defects. It is a second-generation platelet concentrate, often referred to as pure platelet-rich fibrin (P-PRF), prepared from the patient's own blood using a dual-spin centrifugation process with a thixotropic separator gel. This process creates a dense, cross-linked fibrin scaffold that traps concentrated viable platelets. These platelets provide a sustained release of intrinsic growth factors, such as PDGF, TGF-β, and VEGF, which stimulate fibroblast and osteoblast activity, promote angiogenesis, and facilitate bone fill and clinical attachment level gains in periodontal defects. The material is currently being evaluated by KLE Society's Institute of Dental Sciences in Phase 3 clinical trials.
