Overview
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous biologic therapy derived from a patient's own blood, concentrated to contain high levels of platelets. When activated, these platelets release a variety of growth factors and cytokines, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These factors promote tissue healing, angiogenesis, and collagen synthesis. The Foundation for Orthopaedics and Regenerative Medicine evaluated a specific dual-injection protocol for patients with rotator cuff tears or tendinitis who failed conservative treatment, aiming to regenerate damaged tendon tissue and improve clinical outcomes.
