Regenexx-PRP (often referred to as Super Concentrated Platelets or SCP) is a proprietary, autologous, blood-derived biologic product developed by Regenexx, LLC. Unlike standard platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared with bedside centrifuges, the Regenexx protocol involves laboratory processing to achieve significantly higher platelet concentrations (typically 10x to 20x baseline) while minimizing red blood cell and granulocyte contamination (leukocyte-poor PRP). The therapeutic effect is mediated by the release of growth factors—including PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, and IGF-1—from platelet alpha-granules upon activation. These factors stimulate angiogenesis, fibroblast proliferation, and collagen synthesis. In patients with axial low back pain and multifidus muscle atrophy, the product is injected under imaging guidance into the atrophied muscle to promote regeneration and reduce pain.
