Overview

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) developed by the Royan Institute is an autologous biological therapy investigated for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. PRP is prepared by concentrating platelets from a patient's own peripheral blood, which, upon activation, release a high concentration of growth factors and bioactive proteins, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These factors are intended to promote tissue repair, stimulate chondrocyte proliferation, and modulate the inflammatory environment within the osteoarthritic joint. The Royan Institute has conducted Phase 3 clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of intra-articular PRP injections in reducing pain and improving joint function compared to placebo.
