Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-poor plasma (PPP) are blood components with different platelet concentrations used in regenerative medicine. PRP contains a high concentration of platelets (6-8 times normal levels) that release growth factors to stimulate tissue healing. PPP has a very low platelet count (<10 x 10³/μL) but contains fibrinogen and other proteins that can form fibrin-rich clots to facilitate cell migration and attachment. When used together, they provide complementary benefits: PRP delivers concentrated growth factors for accelerated healing, while PPP offers anti-inflammatory properties and provides a scaffold for tissue regeneration. This combination is used to treat various musculoskeletal injuries, promote wound healing, and support tissue regeneration.
