Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PM-CON:SMC2 is a **nanomedicine formulation comprising polymeric micelles (PM)**—specifically Pluronic F127 polymeric micelles—**surface-conjugated with anti-SMC2 monoclonal antibodies** for intracellular delivery to tumor cells. This formulation is designed to target and inhibit the **structural maintenance of chromosomes protein 2 (SMC2)**, a key component of the condensin complex required for chromosome condensation and mitosis, and overexpressed in various cancers. **PM-CON:SMC2 enhances intracellular antibody uptake, induces cytotoxicity (not seen with free antibody), and causes G1 cell cycle arrest in colon (HCT116) and breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) cells**, especially in cancer stem cell (CSC) populations. The strategy aims to eradicate CSCs, potentially improving outcomes and reducing recurrence and metastasis. The platform is experimental and not yet approved for clinical use. There is no indication from available data that it has advanced to clinical trials.
