Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is an investigational trivalent pneumococcal protein recombinant vaccine (PPrV) developed by Sanofi for the prevention of infections caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. Unlike traditional polysaccharide-based vaccines that target specific serotypes, this vaccine utilizes three highly conserved recombinant protein antigens: pneumococcal choline-binding protein A (PcpA), pneumococcal histidine triad protein D (PhtD), and a genetically detoxified pneumolysin mutant (PlyD1). By targeting these conserved surface proteins, the vaccine aims to provide broad, serotype-independent protection against pneumococcal disease. It is formulated with an aluminum adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity and has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety and tolerability in adults, toddlers, and infants.
