Overview

Poa pratensis pollen allergen extract, glutaraldehyde-modified is a therapeutic allergoid vaccine developed by Inmunotek for allergen immunotherapy (AIT). It consists of Kentucky Blue Grass (*Poa pratensis*) pollen proteins that have been chemically polymerized with glutaraldehyde. This modification reduces the number of IgE-binding epitopes, thereby decreasing the risk of immediate allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) during administration, while preserving the T-cell epitopes necessary for inducing immunological tolerance. The extract is typically adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide to provide a depot effect, allowing for a sustained release and a 'cluster' up-dosing schedule. It is indicated for patients with IgE-mediated allergic rhinitis, rhinoconjunctivitis, and mild-to-moderate allergic asthma who have not responded adequately to symptomatic treatment.
