Polio Sabin is a live attenuated oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) developed by GSK for the prevention of poliomyelitis. It is a trivalent vaccine containing Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. The vaccine works by replicating in the intestinal tract and inducing both systemic humoral immunity (IgG) and local mucosal immunity (secretory IgA), which is critical for blocking the transmission of wild poliovirus. Polio Sabin has been a cornerstone of global polio eradication efforts and is typically administered as part of the routine pediatric immunization schedule. In clinical research, such as the MALARIA-076 trial (NCT02207816), it has been used as a concomitant vaccine to ensure that infants receiving investigational products like the RTS,S malaria vaccine also receive standard-of-care protection against polio.
