Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Polycan + Glucosamine is a combination nutraceutical formulation investigated for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The formulation consists of Polycan, a specific (1,3)-β-D-glucan with (1,6)-β-D-glucan branching fermented from the black yeast *Aureobasidium pullulans* SM-2001, and glucosamine, a natural constituent of cartilage glycosaminoglycans. Developed by Glucan Corp., the combination is administered orally in capsule form. Its mechanism of action involves the synergistic effects of glucosamine as a substrate for cartilage repair and Polycan's anti-inflammatory and bone-protective properties. Clinical research, including a 12-week randomized controlled trial, has demonstrated that the combination significantly improves WOMAC scores in patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis compared to glucosamine monotherapy.
