Polycap (Cadila Pharmaceuticals)

Polycap is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) "polypill" developed by Cadila Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with research organizations such as St. John's Research Institute. It is designed for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases by simultaneously targeting multiple risk factors, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and platelet aggregation. The formulation typically contains five active ingredients: simvastatin (an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor), ramipril (an ACE inhibitor), atenolol (a beta-blocker), hydrochlorothiazide (a thiazide diuretic), and aspirin (an antiplatelet agent). By consolidating these evidence-based therapies into a single daily capsule, Polycap aims to improve patient adherence and reduce the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) such as ischemic heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease, particularly in high-risk populations including those with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It has been evaluated in several large-scale clinical trials, including the TIPSK trial, which compared the safety and efficacy of single versus double dosages.
