The formulation consists of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 4000, a high-molecular-weight linear polymer, along with essential electrolytes including sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium chloride. PEG 4000 works by binding water molecules through hydrogen bonding, thereby increasing the osmotic pressure and water content within the intestinal lumen. This leads to an increase in fecal volume, softening of the stool, and stimulation of colonic motility.
