Polyethylene glycol-electrolyte + simethicone is a combination bowel preparation product used for colon cleansing prior to colonoscopy and other gastrointestinal procedures. The formulation consists of a polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution (PEG-ELS), which acts as an osmotic laxative by increasing the water content in the intestinal lumen to induce watery diarrhea and empty the colon. The addition of simethicone, an antifoaming agent, reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive tract, thereby preventing foam formation. This combination has been shown to significantly improve mucosal visibility and enhance the detection rates of polyps and adenomas during colonoscopy.
