Overview

This combination consists of two types of polyclonal antibodies: porcine anti-lymphocyte globulin (pALG) and rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (rATG). These agents are derived from the serum of pigs or rabbits immunized with human T-lymphocytes or thymocytes, respectively. They are potent immunosuppressive therapies used primarily in the treatment of severe aplastic anemia (SAA). The mechanism of action involves the depletion of circulating T-lymphocytes through complement-dependent cytotoxicity, opsonization, and apoptosis. By reducing the number of activated T-cells, these agents mitigate the autoimmune destruction of hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow, thereby facilitating hematologic recovery. In clinical trials sponsored by Qilu Pharmaceutical, this combination (often used as alternative options within a standard immunosuppressive therapy regimen) is evaluated alongside cyclosporine A and thrombopoietin receptor agonists like Romiplostim to improve response rates in treatment-naïve SAA patients.
