Porcine fibrin sealant is a biologic hemostatic material developed and manufactured by Shanghai Haohai Biological Technology Co., Ltd. It is a topical surgical glue derived from porcine (pig) sources, containing fibrinogen and thrombin as its primary active components. The product functions by mimicking the final stage of the natural blood coagulation cascade: when applied to a surgical site, thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin, which then polymerizes to form a stable fibrin clot. This clot adheres to tissues, providing effective hemostasis, sealing wounds, and promoting tissue closure. It is primarily used in surgical procedures to control bleeding and adhere tissues where conventional techniques like sutures or cautery may be insufficient. The product received approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in China in 2021.
