Overview

Eductyl is an effervescent laxative suppository developed by Laboratoires Techni Pharma, primarily indicated for the treatment of dyschezia (rectal constipation). The formulation consists of potassium acid tartrate and sodium bicarbonate. Upon rectal administration, the moisture in the rectum triggers a chemical reaction between these two components, resulting in the release of carbon dioxide gas. This gas production causes mechanical distension of the rectal ampulla, which stimulates local stretch receptors and initiates the defecation reflex. This mechanism provides a rapid and predictable evacuation of the rectum, typically occurring within 5 to 15 minutes. Eductyl is particularly useful for patients with terminal constipation where the primary difficulty is the evacuation of stool from the rectum, and it is also used as a preparation for proctological examinations.
