Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Potassium chloride + magnesium chloride + sodium gluconate + sodium chloride + sodium acetate is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic intravenous electrolyte replacement solution marketed as Plasma-Lyte A. It is a **small-molecule electrolyte combination product** developed and manufactured by Baxter for fluid and electrolyte replenishment and for use as an alkalinizing agent. The solution provides water plus physiologic ions including sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate; acetate is metabolized to bicarbonate, supporting correction of metabolic acidosis, while the balanced electrolyte composition helps restore extracellular fluid volume and electrolyte homeostasis in settings such as dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. It is supplied as an intravenous solution and corresponds specifically to the pH 7.4 Multiple Electrolytes Injection, Type 1 formulation rather than other related balanced crystalloid or irrigation products.
