potassium chloride + potassium bicarbonate

Sando-K is an effervescent tablet formulation containing potassium chloride (600 mg) and potassium bicarbonate (400 mg), which together deliver 12 mmol of potassium (K+) and 8 mmol of chloride (Cl-) when dissolved in water. It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of hypokalemia (low potassium levels), which can be caused by potassium-depleting drugs (such as diuretics, corticosteroids, and cardiac glycosides), severe fluid loss (diarrhea, vomiting), or dietary deficiencies. Sando-K is also used to treat hypochloremic alkalosis. The effervescent formulation is designed to minimize localized gastrointestinal irritation and ensure rapid systemic absorption. Sando-K was originally developed by Sandoz (now Novartis) and is currently marketed in the UK by ALTURiX (which was acquired by Kelso Pharma in 2025).
