Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Potassium chloride + sodium acetate + sodium gluconate + magnesium chloride + sodium chloride** is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic balanced crystalloid intravenous electrolyte solution marketed by Baxter as **Plasma-Lyte A**. It provides water plus sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate to restore extracellular fluid volume and electrolyte balance. Acetate and gluconate are metabolized to bicarbonate precursors, producing an alkalinizing effect. Plasma-Lyte A is indicated as a source of water and electrolytes and as an alkalinizing agent; it has a pH of approximately 7.4 and calculated osmolarity of approximately 294 mOsmol/L.
