**Potassium nitrate + stannous fluoride** is an investigational fixed-dose desensitizing dentifrice combining potassium nitrate and stannous fluoride for relief of dentin hypersensitivity. Potassium ions are intended to reduce dentinal sensory-nerve excitability, while stannous fluoride deposits tin-containing material on exposed dentin and within dentinal tubules, helping occlude fluid pathways that trigger pain; fluoride also supports enamel and dentin remineralization. GSK evaluated an experimental formulation containing 5% potassium nitrate and 0.454% stannous fluoride, and Haleon has subsequently registered a study comparing the dual-active dentifrice with single-active and vehicle controls for dentin hypersensitivity.
