Potassium phosphate dibasic + potassium phosphate monobasic is an approved small molecule electrolyte replenisher used as a phosphorus replacement therapy. The product consists of two inorganic salts, monobasic potassium phosphate (KH2PO4) and dibasic potassium phosphate (K2HPO4), which provide essential phosphorus and potassium ions. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypophosphatemia in adults and pediatric patients weighing 40 kg or more when oral or enteral replacement is not possible or sufficient. Phosphorus is critical for bone metabolism, energy production via ATP, and acid-base balance, while potassium is the major intracellular cation required for nerve conduction and muscle contraction. The drug is administered as an intravenous injection and must be diluted prior to use to prevent electrolyte toxicity or local tissue irritation.
