Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Polyvidone + collagen (marketed under the brand name Fibroquel) is an immunomodulatory combination therapeutic consisting of polyvinylpyrrolidone (povidone) and polymerized type I collagen. It is primarily utilized in the treatment of rheumatological and inflammatory conditions, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The drug is believed to act as a biodynamic modulator of the inflammatory response, regulating the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-alpha, IL-1, and IL-6, while also influencing collagen metabolism and tissue repair. Developed by the Mexican pharmaceutical company Aspid, it has been extensively studied by the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) for various indications, including its potential role in treating COVID-19-related pneumonia.
