Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Povidone iodine + ethanol is a topical antiseptic combination used for the prevention and treatment of skin infections. Povidone-iodine is a complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone (povidone, PVP) and elemental iodine, which acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial by gradually releasing free iodine that disrupts microbial proteins and cell structures. Ethanol serves as an additional antiseptic agent with rapid bactericidal activity through protein denaturation and membrane disruption. This combination enhances the spectrum and speed of antimicrobial action, making it suitable for preoperative skin disinfection, wound care, or general infection control on intact or minorly injured skin[2][5]. The product is intended for external use only.
