PP1493 + PP1815 is a **combination of two bacteriophages** from the Herelleviridae family (order Caudovirales) used in investigational phage therapy targeting *Staphylococcus aureus*, including biofilm-embedded, drug-resistant, and prosthetic joint infections. Both phages are selected for their lytic activity against clinical *S. aureus* isolates; PP1493 generally exhibits higher and broader efficacy, while PP1815 adds coverage and helps prevent resistance development. The combination, supplied as a purified phage cocktail (at approximately 1 × 10⁹ plaque-forming units/ml each), has demonstrated rapid release and stability when delivered locally in a hydrogel carrier during orthopedic surgeries and synergistic effects when combined with antibiotics. Developed by Pherecydes Pharma (now part of Phaxiam Therapeutics), this therapy remains in clinical development and is not yet approved as a pharmaceutical product[1][4][5][6][8].
