Overview
PR-2 is an oral nanoemulsion capsule formulation of diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), developed by Puripharm. Diclofenac exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting the enzymes cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which are responsible for the biosynthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain, fever, and inflammation. The nanoemulsion technology employed in PR-2 is designed to enhance the solubility and gastrointestinal absorption of the poorly water-soluble diclofenac, potentially leading to a faster onset of analgesic action and an improved safety profile compared to conventional oral formulations. PR-2 is currently being developed for the management of mild to moderate acute pain and the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis.
