This therapeutic regimen is a multi-drug combination used in a clinical study led by the University of Aarhus to address the high prevalence of urogenital schistosomiasis and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in rural Madagascar. The regimen consists of **praziquantel**, an anthelmintic that increases the permeability of schistosome cell membranes to calcium ions, causing contraction and paralysis of the parasite; **ciprofloxacin**, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV to treat gonorrhea; **doxycycline**, a tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, used for chlamydia and *Mycoplasma genitalium*; and **metronidazole**, a nitroimidazole that disrupts DNA synthesis in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, used for trichomoniasis. This systematic treatment approach was evaluated for its ability to clear infections and resolve associated reproductive health morbidity in community settings.
