Prednisolone, Amoxicillin, and Clavulanate combination

The combination of prednisolone with amoxicillin/clavulanate is used in various clinical contexts. For COPD exacerbations of moderate severity, however, one study found no significant benefit in adding amoxicillin-clavulanate to prednisolone treatment. For hidradenitis suppurativa flares, a prospective observational study used a regimen of oral prednisone (a 40 mg taper decreasing by 10 mg every 3 days) combined with amoxicillin/clavulanate (875/125 mg twice daily for 10 days), which was found to ameliorate flares and associated pain. In patients with severe alcohol-related hepatitis, amoxicillin-clavulanate combined with prednisolone was not associated with improved 60-day survival compared to prednisolone with placebo, though infection rates were significantly lower in the combination therapy group (29.7% vs 41.5%). Safety and Interactions No direct drug interactions have been found between amoxicillin/clavulanate and prednisone/prednisolone. Generally, these medications can be taken together safely, especially for short-term use. However, there are some considerations when combining these medications: 1.
