Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Prednisolone + formoterol** is a combination regimen consisting of *oral prednisolone*, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid, together with *inhaled formoterol*, a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA). Prednisolone suppresses airway inflammation by binding and activating the glucocorticoid receptor, modulating gene transcription to reduce inflammatory mediators. Formoterol activates the beta2-adrenergic receptor, causing relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and resulting in bronchodilation. This combination is utilized primarily in the ambulatory management of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), aiming to simultaneously treat airway inflammation and bronchoconstriction[1].
