Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prednisolone + moxifloxacin + bromfenac is a compounded ophthalmic combination of a corticosteroid (prednisolone), a fluoroquinolone antibiotic (moxifloxacin), and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (bromfenac) used primarily after cataract and other ocular surgeries to control inflammation and pain while preventing or treating bacterial infection. Prednisolone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to suppress inflammatory cytokine production and leukocyte migration in ocular tissues, moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV to provide broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against common ocular pathogens, and bromfenac inhibits cyclooxygenase-2–mediated prostaglandin synthesis to reduce pain and inflammation. This triple-agent regimen is typically prepared as a sterile ophthalmic solution or suspension by compounding pharmacies and is prescribed to simplify postoperative drop regimens compared with separate steroid, NSAID, and antibiotic eye drops.[1][2][5][7][8]
