Overview

Prednisolone + tobramycin is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic medication containing two active ingredients: prednisolone (a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid) and tobramycin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic). Prednisolone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, reducing inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Tobramycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to bactericidal activity against susceptible bacteria. This combination is primarily used for treating ocular inflammation associated with bacterial infections or risk thereof[8][3]. The product was originally developed by ISTA Pharmaceuticals and later acquired by Bausch & Lomb.
