Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prednisone + tamoxifen is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in the context of breast cancer treatment and research. Prednisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, while tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that acts as an antagonist on estrogen receptors in breast tissue. Tamoxifen is widely used for the treatment and prevention of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, both as adjuvant therapy and for metastatic disease. The combination has been studied in clinical trials to assess whether adding prednisone (or its close analog prednisolone) to standard tamoxifen therapy improves outcomes in postmenopausal women with operable breast cancer; however, evidence suggests no significant benefit from adding prednisone to tamoxifen alone[3]. Both drugs are small molecules administered orally.
