Pregabalin + thioctic acid is a fixed-dose combination of two agents used primarily for the management of neuropathic pain, especially in conditions such as diabetic neuropathy. Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analog that binds to the α2δ subunit of voltage-dependent calcium channels in the central nervous system, reducing excitatory neurotransmitter release and thereby decreasing pain signaling[1][2][4]. Thioctic acid (also known as alpha-lipoic acid or ALA) is an endogenous antioxidant that may help protect nerve tissue from oxidative stress. The combination has been studied for its safety and pharmacokinetics; no significant pharmacokinetic interactions were found between the two drugs when co-administered[3]. Clinical trials suggest that while both agents are effective individually for neuropathic pain, combining them does not provide significant additional benefit over pregabalin alone[8].
