Drug intelligence / Profile preview
H5N1 influenza vaccine (Vietnam strain) + AS03, commercially known as Prepandrix, is a monovalent, inactivated, split-virion prepandemic influenza vaccine developed by GSK. It is derived from the A/Vietnam/1194/2004 (H5N1) strain and is formulated with the AS03 adjuvant system, an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, DL-alpha-tocopherol, and polysorbate 80. The inclusion of AS03 is designed to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response, particularly against drifted H5N1 strains, while allowing for a lower dose of antigen (dose-sparing). The vaccine was the first of its kind to receive marketing authorization in the European Union for use in a prepandemic situation to stimulate active immunity against the H5N1 subtype of Influenza A virus.
