Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prevenar13 + Pneumovax refers to the sequential administration of two different vaccines for the prevention of diseases caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. Prevenar 13 (PCV13) is a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine that contains purified capsular polysaccharides from 13 serotypes of *S. pneumoniae*, each conjugated to a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity. It induces an immune response against these serotypes and is primarily used in infants, children, and certain adult populations[4][5][6]. Pneumovax (Pneumovax 23 or PPSV23) is a 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine containing purified capsular polysaccharides from an additional set of *S. pneumoniae* serotypes not all covered by PCV13. It stimulates immunity through T-cell independent mechanisms and is recommended for older children and adults at increased risk for invasive disease[2][4]. The combination regimen provides broader protection against more serotypes than either vaccine alone and is recommended in specific high-risk groups or age categories according to national guidelines[2][4][8].
